Frank Luntz and “Government Option”

I thought that opponents of health care reform were doing so well that they needed little help. Frank Luntz on 18 August 2009 offered advice nonetheless. He told Sean Hannity that more respondents approve of a “public option” than would approve of a “government option,” so opponents should spin any U. S. funds to complement or compete with private insurers as “government option.”

Clearly, Luntz doesn’t go far enough. Opponents to reform should spin “public option” not as “government option” but as “hit-your-thumb-with-a-hammer” option. How many viewers of Hannity’s show would say, reflexively, “Ouch”?
